Parents

This fraternity will be different.

As parents, you know your job is to look after your son on his journeys in life. One journey that your son has decided to pursue is joining Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. "Fraternity." What does that word mean to you? For a lot of you it conjures up images of a keg tapped around the clock and outrageous initiation rituals found in movies such as "Animal House." There are fraternities who still operate that way, however, SigEp is committed to assisting its members in achieving success in life.

SigEp molds its members through the Balanced Man Program. The Balanced Program is a lifelong program that consists of five "challenges" a brother can undertake. The first three challenges are undertaken while a member is in college. They are the Sigma, Phi, and Epsilon Challenges. The challenges each have tasks that a brother completes which work towards making him a "balanced man." Some examples of tasks a brother completes in the Balanced Man Program are community service hours, participation in an on-campus organization and participation on an intramural sports team.

The motto of the Balanced Man Program is "Sound Mind, Sound Body" and SigEp works to help its brothers achieve that. It is a proven fact that SigEp chapters with the Balanced Man Program, like ours, have higher average grades than the traditional pledge model fraternities. An important fact you may want to know is that men involved in a fraternity have a higher average GPA than men who are not.

Hopefully this section clears up some of the questions you have about your son's fraternity. If you have other questions, please feel free to ask any Undergraduate or Alumni Member or visit the SigEp National Parents Site.

 Parents Club

The Iowa Beta Parents Club exists to support both the Undergraduate Chapter and the physical Chapter house.

This organization is administered by current Iowa Beta undergraduate member parents.  Typically, the Parents Club organizes an annual  Mom's Weekend and various fund raising activities.  All funds raised are used for the improvement of Iowa Beta.  The dispersment of funds raised is approved by the officers of the Parents Club.  Input is requested from the current Undergraduate Chapter, Alumni Board, Mom Kennedy and Chef Sherrie for prioritization of how funds are used.

Many Iowa Beta parents do not live in the Ames / Des Moines area and therefore, a key mission of the Parents Club is to find ways to allow participation by all parents, regardless of where they live.  Therefore, starting in the Fall of 2011,  the Parents Club is implementing a Paypal solution for all donations.  By clicking on the Donate button, below, parents can use any credit card to make a donation to the Parents Club account.  There is a an opportunity to designate your donation for a specific use as part of the check-out process.

If you wish to make a donation, please click on the Donate button, below.

Thank you for your support.
