About Us

We are a group of men with high ideals.

Academics:

Grades are something that we take very seriously at SigEp. For the past three years SigEp has been in the top 10 out of 28 fraternities for grades each semester. Our overall GPA is also above the all men’s undergraduate average, as well as the all IFC fraternity average.

Also, newly implemented for freshman are required study hours. Typically the jump from high school to college is a difficult one for freshman and by having them be required to study together in the library has shown vast improvement from the fall to spring GPA.  Every Tuesday and Thursday, the new member class will go to the library together and work on homework and at the same time a lasting friendship with one another.

Intramurals:

One thing we take a lot of pride in at Iowa State is the large amount of intramurals. Here at SigEp we participate in every single one of them. This past year we were intramural basketball and hockey champs, golf first and second place, as well second place in football. We take pride in doing well in intramurals, because here at SigEp we strive for Sound Body. If there happens to not have any intramurals scheduled you will always find guys at the rec lifting weights or playing a pickup game of some sort. There is never a problem to find someone to play any type of game, even if it is just playing catch in the front yard.

Homecoming:

Each fall semester we are paired with a sorority and small fraternity to participate in several events to gain points to determine which pairing is the best for homecoming. Some of the events include lawn displays, tournaments, as well as the football game on Saturday. The most fun event is called “Yell Like Hell” which is where each pairing performs a small skit, with music, dancing and yelling like hell. Whichever skit has the most creativity and shows the best school spirit is determined the winner.  Here is a video of one of our skits where we made final cuts:

Greek Week:

Greek Week is very similar to Homecoming in the fall semester, however Greek Week is held in the spring. Throughout this week, there are many different events that are only for Greeks. There are the normal tournaments, a karaoke tournament,  blood drive, and Lip Sync. Lip sync is very similar to Yell Like Hell, however instead of yelling, the skit is pre-recorded and the pairing needs to perform without making any noise. On the Saturday of Greek Week, we have what we call Greek Olympics. Throughout the day, each pairing competes in many different and unique events. Some examples of the events include tug-of-war, relays, canoe race on Lake Laverne, as well as an apple bobbing contest. The week is concluded with Vespers on Sunday night where the winner of Greek Week is announced, as well as many different awards that Greeks have won throughout the year.

Philanthropy:

Throughout the year we participate in many different types of philanthropy which benefits SigEp national’s organization of choice, Youth Aids. In the fall semester we have our annual Sausagefest. We grill out hotdogs and hamburgers and throughout the past couple of years we have raised over $1000 dollars at each Sausagefest. We also have an adopt-a-highway, and each semester we go and pick up all the trash on the highway. It is a great way to get outdoors, and once in awhile you can find some pretty interesting stuff.

Social Life:

Even though at SigEp we strive for academic success, we also take pride in our large social network. Throughout the semester we have many “socials” with sororities, which can include dinner to just hanging out getting to know the girls. Aside for the female aspect of our social life, we also have many brotherhoods. One of the most memorable times that you can have as a SigEp is the strong brotherhood you will have with each brother, and with that will come with many stories.
